All-volunteer Fire and Emergency Medical Services

The Armonk Independent Fire Company Inc., also known as the Armonk Fire Department, is an all-volunteer organization whose members provide First Responder fire, rescue and EMS services to the Town of North Castle Fire District #2 and mutual aid assistance to surrounding communities in Northern Westchester County, New York.

Our volunteers respond 24/7/365 to more than 1,000 calls annually in a coverage area that includes Westchester County Airport; Kensico Reservoir; an eight mile section of Interstate 684; major corporate headquarters and homes, schools and businesses spread over 24 square miles of village streets, winding roads and steep hills.

Become a volunteer
We recruit and welcome volunteers from across the North Castle community. We are your neighbors -- nurses, students, business owners, trade and craftsmen, lawyers, bankers, corporate executives, town employees, stay-at-home moms and dads, grandmothers, grandfathers, and more. Our oldest member served continuously for 62 years; our youngest member is a high school senior who hopes to attend the US Military Academy at West Point next year. Our volunteers have received local, regional and national recognition for their dedication and results, notably in 2019 when two members received citations for lifesaving and our EMS Captain was named "BLS Provider of the Year" at the New York State Vital Signs EMS Conference.
We currently have 60 active members, 28 of whom are NYS certified Emergency Medical Technicians. Some members are exclusively firefighters, or exclusively EMT's. Other members choose to certify in both capacities. We are always looking for new volunteers! If you're interested in a little hard work, a strong sense of community, the benefits and excitement of learning new skills and have a desire to help neighbors in a time of need, consider joining us. Stop by the firehouse on a Monday evening to learn how you can be part of something special in Armonk. You'll be warmly welcomed.

Each year our volunteers respond to 1,000+ fire and emergency medical calls and complete countless hours of classes, drills, and training exercises. Q: Is there a pole in the firehouse?
A: No!! Shortly before the firehouse was built, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) banned traditional firehouse poles. OSHA was concerned that a firefighter might accidentally fall through the hole while sleepwalking. |
Q: Are any of your members paid? Surely the fire department chief is paid, isn't he?
A: No!! No members of the Armonk Fire Department receive any salary. The chief works at a demanding full-time job, and he also responded to more than 600 emergencies last year. |
